CHIVERS (0) Elevation: 8,700 ft
Chivers is a great backcountry ski run that is literally a ten minute hike from the top of Teton Pass on the south side. It is essentially the ridge line just skiers right of Telemark Bowl. There are a couple different options to ski it, but generally down works the best.Chivers will drop you down to the old pass road(trail creek) parking area. Or you can skin back up to the upper parking lot when you reach the meadows. The former is the more used option, but skinning back up would probably be quicker that going all the way down and hitching a ride back up.
EDELWEISS (2) Elevation: 9,060 ft
A small accessible mountain on the southside of Teton Pass, that offers great bowl skiing.LITTLE TUCKERMANS (0) Elevation: 9,899 ft
If you ask an old timer, They'll tell you that back in the day if you skied Little Tuckerman's, you were an extreme bad ass skier. Now any joe schmo will ski it any time of year. It is a short and steep cirque that is very aesthetic to look at and ski. It offers some of the few north facing skiing slopes on the pass.MOUNT ELLY (8) Elevation: 9,300 ft
Mount Elly Serves up some of the best skiing on the south side of Teton Pass. The north face, commonly called the Claw, or the Bear Claw, is steep, narrow and full of fun features. Triple Direct offers a mellower day with fun open meadows and glade skiing. There are many possibilities from Mount Elly, and as long as you are on the North or North East Aspects, it will funnel you down to the lower parking lot.MOUNT GLORY (16) Elevation: 10,086 ft
A jackson hole classic. This mountain probably sees the most traffic than any other backcountry area in the Hole. Which is good for snow stability, bad for finding freshies.TAYLOR MOUNTAIN (2) Elevation: 10,352 ft
Taylor is the ultimate ski descent in the Southern Tetons. It is a massive mountain with challenging and exposed skiing. It is very avalanche prone laden with terrain traps, and claims the life of skiers every so often. It is generally skied in the spring when condtiions are safe.TELEMARK BOWL (0) Elevation: 8,628 ft
Telemark bowl is a great place to get your backcountry skiing feet wet. It is only a five minute hike from the top of Teton Pass. The skiing is great and relatively safe. You can choose to ski out to the bottom of old pass road, or skin/boot pack back to the top of the pass.
THE PYRAMID (4) Elevation: 9,670 ft
The Pyramid is the first nasty knob as one ascends the SE Ridge of the Rendezvous Peak Massif. It's hard to get up safely in the winter but the rewards are often worth a little risky skinning. The pyramid offers several thousand feet of great skiing on its South, East, and North aspects. To the West a steep, serrated ridge links it to the rest of the Rendezvous Massif. The view from the summit of the Pyramid is imposing. To the North intimidating chutes drop away. Across the gulch, Rendezvous Peak's prominent Martini Chutes look a bit more intense than they do from the valley floor.
There is no real safe route up or down The Pyramid if avy conditions are ugly. The NE Ridge ascent route offers the steep, cliffy face you just had to poke your way up. The SE Ridge presents a confusing smorgasborg of terrain. The South side goes from mellow glades to a mix of cliffed out ridges and terrain trap bowls followed by long, nasty chutes. The North face offers long, steep, exposed and uncertain chutes.
UNSKIABOWL (0) Elevation: 9,950 ft
UNSKIABOWL is the next bowl over from Little Tuckerman's. There are some great shots to ski on unskiabowl, but there are a bunch of cliffs to get cliffed out on more on the way out, so scope your line before committing. Great fun mini shots abound.WILSON FACES (0) Elevation: 8,430 ft
The Wilson Faces, AKA Phillips Ridge has great skiing that nobody ever goes to. The slightly lower elevation and eastern aspects may be to blame but this is some of the best sustained skiing on Teton Pass. There are great terrain choices too, open glades, chutes and cliffs. Be careful about crossing private property at the bottom. If you find yourself accidentally on some one's land, be respectful and apologize and buy them beer.
To avoid trespassing start at the Phillips Ridge Trailhead off of Teton Pass and skin out from there and when you are done skiing come back the same way.
