Warpigsinfin: December 27, 2010 Uphill: 5,000 ft. | Downhill: 5,000 ft.

WOW. Deep and perfect in the shady woods of GTNP. Lots of aspects are wind-affected up high but protected zones were phenomenal.

Seemed to be coming in pretty wet and dense. Small flakes but fast, fun, hero-snow conditions.

Lots of ski and snowshoe traffic in GTNP but they're all sticking to the flats. We were the second group up Shadow that day. Big thanks to whoever went first and put in the GREAT skin track.



Snowing hard yesterday. Wind was strong and shifty up high. Severe wind loading and low viz kept us from ascending the slide prone summit pitch. Saw no signs of slide activity throughout our day.

Got some new skis and boots to try out today. Fischer WATEA 118 skis and Dalbello Virus boots. Heading for the Pass to see how this new snow has affected the heavy traffic zones up there.

My hunch is there is severe wind-affect up high on most aspects but tracks blown in completely in shady zones.
