At 8,200', the snowpack had a supportable crust on sun-exposed slopes, with deep powder in shade, and a continuing layer of deep (approx. 10-12 inches) faceted hoarfrost at the ground. Our pit test showed instability on slopes greater than 35 degrees, so we kept to moderate slopes and had a blast. Warm temps during the day created some early spring-like conditions (slushy corn on top of the crust, sintering powder in the shade), which was challenging in places, but still fun to ski.
