Surface Hoar | Jackson, WY United States | 01/01/07, by Editors

Skiing The Backcountry Image

Surface hoar, more commonly known as frost, are large snow crystals that form on the snow surface during cold, clear, and calm nights. It is really fun to ski but once it is buried by new snow fall it becomes a dangerous weak layer and is responsible for a large percentages of avalanches.
