First Testing With Clip Skins Glueless Climbing Skins | 01/17/2011, by powderjunky

My first try with Clipskins Glueless climbing skins is a huge success!

INSTALLATION

I hate trimming skins, so I would recommend just paying the $10 at your local gear shop to cut your skins to your skis. This will save time and frustration if you mess up a cut. Figuring out the tension for the length of the ski was pretty easy and the most important part.

Once you get your skins trimmed, the rest is super easy. I was really surprised how easy it was to put the clips on.

Then I waited 12 hours for the glue to set (Clipskins recommends 24 hours) but dammit it was a powder day!

ON THE SKIN TRACK
They were really easy to put on and take off. I broke trail, cruised on flats and went up steeps and the skins stayed on fine.

OVERALL
I was pretty pumped on my new skins and impressed with how they performed. I can't wait to see how they handle with more abuse. We will be putting together another article on how to trim and attach the clips soon, but if a first class mongoloid like myself can figure it out, I am sure you can too!

That's Our Opinion. What's Yours?

I've been using Bdel skins for a while. They rule it. However, they are a bit heavy, but I'll take it for the abuse they can withstand. What is the weight on these clip skins? What about sag? BTW, trimming skins is not hard. Just take your time. $10 is 6+ PBRs!

I don't have an official weight, but they feel a little lighter than my orange bd skins with sts clip.

Maybe that was my problem, I spent my money on pbr and couldn't cut a straight line if my life depended on it :)

I agree with you on the bd skins. I have had a pair for over 6 years now and they still do great!

oh, and there was no sag, we'll keep testing them to find out how they do will lots of abuse.

They weigh less than the BDs and pack down to about half the size.
