Nordic skiing at Trail Creek in a painful graupel blizzard. Gusting 40+ in the valley with extremely heavy snowfall this morning. You've gotta be pretty kooky or desperate to go backcountry skiing this morning. I think the avy forecast lowballed the threat level and it's certainly increasing now.
Teton Pass wind gauge must be broken as it's registering light winds while JH SUMMIT gauge registers 48 mph average with gusts over 80 mph.
Now it looks like the storm is abating some but still snowing up high. Concerned about the graupel layer from a few days ago resting under new windloaded areas.
Gonna let someone else do the guinea pigging for me today. It looks like there are plenty of willing test pilots out there today. Best of luck!

That's the beauty of having many skis-nordic/skate ski when the bc isn't happening and vice-versa.powderjunky wrote on 12/10/10 at 12:20:36 am pst:
