Camped out the 14th and skied the Grand yesterday. My buddy Frazee got turned around by sickness when we did it last week so he had an ax to grind... I volunteered to tag along.

We camped in the Meadows and arose at 3:30 am. ~20F overnight and cloudless. Departed at 4:00... sunrise ~7:30. We were prepping to climb the Stettner when it rose. Good timing.

Minimal fresh (dust-2 in) everywhere EXCEPT the Stettner. There a strong NE wind had blown it crazy nipple to head deep... I had to burrow my way up it. As soon as we hit the Chevy it was back to bare. Weird.

Old booters made the summit snowfield as much of a breeze as can be hoped for.

Descent: we were concerned about wet slides (got hot fast) so we dropped in when the Ford still had a little shade on it... scary crusty. Almost truly bulletproof.

Everything from TeePee to valley floor was perfect corn. Camping made it easier, as did having our climbing gear stashed pretty high. It's hell lugging bottom to top.
