I went to Ouray for the anual CAIC fundraiser at the Historic Western Hotel friday night and met a friend from summer. The next day we met up with a friend of his to do some backcountry skiing up on Red Mountain Pass. We ended up skiing two runs, one on each side of the road. each were about 2000 feet in vertical rise. We skied an avalanche path on the southern side of the pass and experienced creamy conditions. After that we crossed the road to ski some east facing trees. The skin track was brutally steep with well over 50 switchbacks, my skins slid back almost every step. After some more epic powder skiing I was beat to hell and stumbled up the hill across the creek to the car. I slept good that night...
