Backcountry Skiing Journal From:

Warpigsinfin: January 27, 2010 Uphill: 4,000 ft. | Downhill: 4,000 ft.

We started the day skinning to the Claw. There are not too many tracks out there on account of the avalanche danger. It skied really well although a wrong turn could get you in trouble. A few inches of fresh atop all of last weeks consolidating pow. A few signs of recent slides buried in the fresh.

Then we hiked Glory and skied Snowshoe. Good turns top to bottom and sparsely tracked.

We hitched back from Coal Creek and hiked Shivers Ridge. Hacked up but uniformly soft.

After a good day we headed to the Stagecoach Bar at 3:00 pm for margaritas and burritos. At 4:00 I noticed the sun streaming through the window, looked out, and realized it had gone bluebird for the first time in over a week. We got a sixer to go and scrambled back up the Pass for a rushed (4:20 departure) but all-time great Glory lap. Surreal sunset light and perfect untracked snow in the elusive Christmas Cache. Truly a magical day... then back to the Coach for another beer.
