Backcountry Skiing Journal From:
Warpigsinfin: January 22, 2010 Uphill: 3,000 ft. | Downhill: 3,000 ft.
We encountered 4-5 inches of fresh at the base of Shadow in our skin track from yesterday. By 8500 feet the old skin track was completely buried.
We didn't dare skin and ski the summit knob of Shadow because there was about 3 feet of wind-deposited fresh up there... primed to slide. Strong (15-25 mph) South winds were heavily loading Northish aspects.
It was almost too deep in the woods on the NE ridge... perma-facials cuz I was on my skinny skis (103 under foot). I let my little brother try my Megawatts and he flipped out... loved em.
Tomorrow I'm weaseling my way onto the Tram... despite marginal vis, it should be the best day at the Village of the season... and a Saturday.
The Hounds will be hungry tomorrow. Some shit is definitely going to slide... hopefully nothing steps down to the garbage layer just off the ground. Ski safe!
