Shadow lived up to it's name today and provided fast, fun, sugary skiing on it's shadier slopes. Sun-affected aspects were a little crusty... and had clearly been more prone to sliding. We skinned the SE ridge, probably the 6th and 7th people up Shadow since the snowfall last week. On the skin track we encountered interesting instabilities and a few bonafied slides around 9000 feet. All were small and had occurred in the woods, but they left me scratching my head as to why the more obviously sketchy points in the skin track hadn't slid.
During the skin, despite being the 6th up the track, I got whoomphed at three times in close succession at about 9000 feet. This was in east facing trees just above all the earlier slide activity we encountered.
We opted not to ski the summit knob and took the safest route I know down the NE Ridge. It was an amazingly fun run with good, fast snow from top to bottom. Good coverage getting out but Garnet proper looks BEYOND BONEY. YIP YIP.
