Backcountry Skiing Journal From:

Earnsturns: January 8, 2011 Uphill: 3,100 ft. | Downhill: 3,100 ft.

We skied on a mostly north facing and around 9000/9500 feet.Wind, mild weather, and lack of recent significant snowfall the snow pack has condensed and stabilized in some sheltered places like this one. In the pit tests scored in the upper 20's with on reaching 30 all failures with a Q3 sheer rating. All the snow on the slope looked consistent so we didn't worry that the slope rolled over 35 degrees. Some north and west facing aspects in the area have built up hard unstable wind slabs but this slope was sheltered and that wasn't the case.
