Sidecountry 1 Day
Weekends and holidays throughout the season!
This in-n-out of bounds day combines the absolute best between lift-served access and the thousands of acres of backcountry and untracked snow at Sugar Bowl. Using the lift means access to out-of-bounds terrain with just the right amount of touring with convertible bindings and climbing skins to access even more terrain.
This is a great opportunity not only to be introduced to the backcountry skiing experience but also to practice the procedures for leaving the ski resort with a tool pack, avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel, choosing terrain to reduce the hazards and tour smoothly and effectively with climbing skins. This is also a perfect way to learn about skiing as a small team with a professional ski guide, just as in a big ski mountaineering project or snowcat or heli-skiing excursions.
The day begins with arrival, check-in and gear fitting between 8:30-9:00am. After safety briefing with your guide, you'll begin skiing some of the best terrain at Sugar Bowl. We come in for lunch, then out again for the afternoon until about 3:00pm. Back at the ASI Backcountry Adventure Center, we'll recap the great day during Après Backcountry Hour.
If you don't own AT, telemark skis or a splitboard with skins, we have them for you. Alpine skiers: bring your own alpine boots and we'll click them into state-of-the-art backcountry mountain skis.
