EVENT ON 12/19/2009 & 04/25/2010
Sugar Bowl's New Backcountry Adventure Center is offering several backcountry clinics, in bounds clinics and daily tours! Please visit http://www.alpineskills.com/cat_BAC.html for a complete list of events!
Daily Guided Lake Runs
On days when conditions are right, we'll ski from Mt. Judah, accessible by the new Summit Chair across to Donner Peak, then all the way down to the west end of Donner Lake. This classic "locals" run can be done with fixed heel alpine resort skis or snowboard or bring your tele or alpine touring gear.
We'll post the sign "the day of" at the Backcountry Adventure Center when conditions are good. The tour leaves at 2:00pm, so arrive at the BAC in time to get signed up and pick up your pack, avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel.
From Donner Lake, we'll take a shuttle bus back to Sugar Bowl between 4:30 - 5:00pm. There is no better way to finish a great day at Sugar Bowl than with the Lake Run.
Skills covered will include:
* Interpreting the Avalanche Bulletin
* Review Safety Plan
* Carrying a tool pack including avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel
* Downhill travel techniques as a small team with a professional guide
* Appropriate terrain and route selection
* Hazard recognition and avoidance
* Variable conditions ski coaching tips
Please call (530) 426-7005 to find out if today is a lake run day!
