Highlights

Views of the Grand and Middle Teton from the top of the couloir are phenomenal. Steep chute followed by a rollover into an even steeper chute that opens up like the bottom of an hourglass.

Ascent

Leave Bradley/Taggart Trailhead (winter) or Lupine Meadows Trailhead (spring and summer). Ice ax and crampons are recommended. Ascend Garnet Canyon to "The Meadows". Nez Perce is the mountain straight South. Head SW from the meadows up steep snowfields toward the obvious couloir on Nez Perce. There is a steep rollover near where the snowfield narrows into a true couloir. Once you're in the couloir, go as high as you safely can. The upper sections are often rocky and icy unless there's a lot of snow. The higher you go, the steeper it gets and the better the views are.

Descent

Exercise caution and tread lightly at the rollover where the couloir starts to open up. This spot seems particularly avy prone. Follow your ascent route back down to the Meadows and then descend Garnet Canyon back to the appropriate trailhead. Watch out of sneaky cliffbands throughout Garnet Canyon.

Access/Permits

GTNP Park Pass needed unless you start really early. There's usually noone in the ranger booth before 6 am.
