Highlights

Sand Mountain acts as a USFS fire lookout during the summer months, so with good visibility the views are worth the hike alone. A snowmobile is a must have as the approach/ascent is approx. 5mi.

Ascent

Leaving from Ray Benson Sno-Park head south on forest service road 2690. In approx. 2 miles take a right on 810rd/Old santiam wagon rd. and follow that west to the base of Sand Mountain. Orient yourself with the snowmobile trails at the sno-park kiosk before leaving to better your knowledge the snowmobile trail system. Park your sled in the saddle between the two "summits" for hiking access to either.

Descent

If it looks good, ski it!

Access/Permits

A snow park parking pass is required.
