Mountains

DEMING MOUNTAIN (1) Elevation: 12,902 ft

UNEVA PEAK (1) Elevation: 12,520 ft

Uneva Peak is easily reached from Vail Pass. It's a great peak with a variety of terrain to access depending on conditions. The south face of the peak is pretty wind scoured, but there is a gully that fills in. Off the shoulder to the southeast is a shallow bowl, which provides easy skiing above tree line. There is a ton of tree skiing in the area with great spacing and enough vertical to be fun. The north side of the mountain is more technical, but manageable with good decision making.

In short: lots of good skiing - easy access.

Got Something to Add?

please know that colorado heliski was flying around these peaks long before stan skied this line. It is very unlikely that stan and katie were the first people to ski this line. i personally know people who have been dropped off by helocopter on nearby buffalo mtn.

kihmskis- The Gore Range including Buffalo Mountain is designated as National Wilderness, so it seems unlikely that people were being deposited on top of these mountains by heliski operations.

ehcarley- Like I said I personally know people who have been placed on Buffalo by heli. The chances of Stan and Katie being the first people to ski this line are extremely slim.

Wow, i'm sorry my last comment had to be edited. I was only trying to interject alittle humor into this discussion. The question isn't weather or not helis have landed on these peaks or used to scope lines or weather or not there are heli pilots with no reguard for the law but weather or not Stan was the first person to ski this line.

Let me begin by saying that I have alot of respect for Stan and his accomplishments in the mountains. I will not list them here but they are both numerous and worthy and listed on his website at Stan Wagon.com. Right on Stan way to get after it.

This mountain is located less than 10 miles from Interstate 70 and in close proximity to several "world class ski destinations" and is visible from several points to the north including Red Bufallo Pass. The chute in question would hold snow in June or even July making it highly visible to anyone who would hike this popular route, that was once considered for I70, in early summer. Basically I would ask that the word "possible" or "first known" descent be used in this description since no one really knows for sure.

First Known has been added. Thanks for the input :)
