The areas of the Lakes District and Northern Patagonia receive a ton of precipitation, but the moisture content can change dramatically between storms. The stability tends to go through dramatic peaks and valleys depending on timing with the storm. Generally, a day or two after a storm you will find stable, consolidated conditions.

Highlights

A big, easy face from the summit of a cool peak. The crater is the real objective on this peak, but skiing from the summit and getting into the crater takes a bit more time. If the weather is touchy, or the summit is the priority, this is a good descent.

Ascent

Drive from Osorno toward Argentina / Bariloche. Check in at the Park Administration. At the trailhead, you will pay 7000 Chilean Peso for a pass to the park that is valid for a week. You may also rent horses here. Follow the well-marked trail through the lower valley, and forest. When you get into the lenga forest, the snow is close. Right at treeline there is a rustic refugio - no services. From this point you can see the entire south face in front of you. Pick your path - it's all very straightforward.

Descent

Reverse your ascent path, but look to the side of the face for steeper slopes, and better snow.

Access/Permits
