SIERRA VELLUDA
Snowpack
The snowpack can be a little more complex in this area. The weather can bring everything from rain and wind to big storms and cold temps. Each face of each mountain can be unique. Although, persistent, deep instabilities are not common.
Mountains
SIERRA VELLUDA (2) Elevation: 11,762 ft
Sierra Velluda is a big, steep peak very close (to the SW) to Volcan Antuco. It is rarely climbed, and sees only occasional visits by skiers. It has relatively big, complex glaciers for a peak that is so easy to access in Chile, although they are not so daunting.From the car to the summit will require about 9000 vertical feet of ascension. This is one of the best mountains for skiing in Chile.
