Very interesting to hear a true avalanche expert's perspective on those who 'think' they are experts. I've always felt that many of the people I travel in the backcountry with know more than I do, despite having the exact same training and similar level of experience. Turns out that, in all likelihood, these people just have an inflated perspective of their avy knowledge. Thanks for the reality check!

I took a avy course from Bruce a few years ago. He is such a class act!
If only all the 23 year old bro bras in the bc could just instantly acquire his wisdom and humility...

Bruce's book is really enjoyable to read! I received it as a gift and thought that it would just sit on the shelf. It's pretty thick so reading it seemed a little daunting.
But once I flipped to page 2, there was no going back. I was driven by a desire to learn more and more, so that maybe I will 'Stay Alive'...

The more you know the better, but the more you go out the higher your chances are of getting into an accident. It really comes down to a continued desire to keep learning, but to also respect snow is always changing and a lot of times the best call is to turn around when red/yellow flags are present.
