Axl Rose Killed Backcountry Skiing | UNITED STATES, CALIFORNIA | 11/17/2008, by powderjunky
It will have taken Axl over 14 years to finally release Guns and Roses newest album, Chinese Democracy, on November 23. It took about 14 seconds while listening to the first single to come to the conclusion he should have taken 14 more. As backcountry skiers a good portion of our time is spent slogging uphill to slopes far far away. And for most, that uphill battle is complimented by the screeching and squealing of the original Guns and Roses. So many times has the old G'NR inspired me for one more lap, a faster pace, or just good noise pollution while shredding the earned pow. With classics we have all heard a billion times over anyone would be thrilled for a new album. In turn meaning, a new ass kicking soundtrack to rock out to while breaking trail through 3- feet of creamy exhausting awesomeness.
Axl might as well given a couple of rabid monkeys LSD, a Journey Greatest Hits Album, and a microphone and the end result would have been just as good, less expensive, and mildly entertaining.
Like the Star Wars prequels, the Matrix sequels and the Economy, Axl has failed us all. Fourteen years of waiting to update my forever stale playlist, wasted. At least now we have closure and won't spend the next 14 years eagerly waiting for the rock album of a lifetime.
So what now? I'll keep skiing the whiteroom while syncing each turn to the classics of the real Guns and Roses, while shamefully crying myself to sleep over the worst let down since the Segway.
