One to Avoid... Morzine, France | FRANCE | 12/31/2008, by Catherine_Parker

I'm not knocking Morzine as a resort. Quite the opposite with 600km of Piste and 10 freestyle parks it has  a lot of variety. Snowwise its exceptional with last season having the biggest dump in over 40 years allowing riding to continue up until the end of April. They are apparently expecting the same again this year.

However, we are not talking about holidays and as great a resort as Morzine may be its not ideal as a worker. Firstly the nightlife is fairly quiet by resort standards and seriously expensive in comparison to wages. Its 8 Euros for a beer and don't even ask about spirits. There are also no buses after 8pm so it is difficult getting around after dark unless you are prepared to work or have bullied some poor soul into being a the driver for the night. Equipment is also very pricey and eating out is not really an option. It is also a big advantage here to speak passable French and you might find it difficult to converse with the locals if you don't. It is one for the hard core skiers who are only interested in the slopes. For those looking for an all round experience Morzine is maybe not the place to go.
