Ready for Winter | Somewhere in the desert backcountry, UT United States | 11/04/08, by hotChocolate

Campfire in Bryce Canyon, Utah

I refuse to step into a bar that allows cigarette smoking, but the smell of a campfire fills my heart with warm memories and clears my mind of worry.

This weekend, for me, marked the transition of seasons.  As winter approaches, I have a tradition of heading to the desert for one last stint of t-shirts and flip flops.  One last day on the crags.  One last summer campfire.

The heat of the fire gives me strength to embrace the cold months ahead.  The dance of the flames fills me with energy.  My dreams of rock and singletrack are slowly replaced with visions of untracked powder.

Maybe it's daylight savings time.  Perhaps it's the sugar high of Halloween.  All I know is that today, as I cast my ballot, I can finally say:

I am ready for winter.

That's Our Opinion. What's Yours?

So jealous that you got to go to the desert! With the blizzard today, I'm not so sure that I'm ready for winter...
