2009 Patagonia Stretch Ascent Jacket | Reviewed On: May 7, 2009

THE GOOD
This jacket is your best bet to protect against incoming storms or any weather disturbances. It's waterproof, breathable, and is meant to move with you while skiing or climbing no matter what the precipitation is throwing your way. The underarm zip vents are great for dumping excess heat after a huge pitch or solid boot pack, and the hood is compatible with helmets to seal in that small bit of warmth that may make a huge difference on your adventure.
THE BAD
A tough thing to bite off with this jacket is it's a bit expensive. However, you must keep in mind Patagonia's lifetime warranty and the fact they go pretty far out of their way to be socially and environmentally conscious. You know your money is going to support a worthy company, just make sure if you're not super skinny to think about ordering a size bigger than you'd normally get. Also, if you're thinking about this jacket for storm day riding, you'll want to consider it's thin, so if you want to layer up with down or whatever underneath, another size up may be beneficial.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Patagonia usually makes bomber equipment and this is no exception. Although it's not specifically designed for skiers, it works well as a storm day shell with a down under layer, or by itself as a climbing layer. For the most part this jacket is waterproof, comfortable, vents well and is made by a great company with great intentions.
