THE GOOD
Easy to Install Once we figured out how to install the rain gutter towers that were specific to our van, the box only took about 5 minutes to install.
Sturdy The Yakima Skybox Pro 12 seems to be plenty durable to withstand as much abuse as we can throw at it.
Opens from Both Sides This convenient feature allows you to customize the way you access the box, depending on your car and what other racks you might also need.
Easy to Open Turn the key and pull down the handle/latch. This feature is way easier than pushing in the buttons on my old box top carrier.
Stays Open This box has a nice suspension that keeps the box open when you are loading your gear.
Easy to Close The suspension also prevents it from slamming on your fingers as you pull it closed.
THE BAD
Not Enough Space Although the Yakima Skybox Pro 12 technically fits 4 pairs of skis, poles & some extras, it doesn't have nearly as much space as I would prefer. It's extremely frustrating to have to fanagle the skis so that they're just right so that the box will close. My old box top carrier had tons more space, and I miss being able to just throw everything "upstairs".
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
First of all, if you don't have a rooftop cargo carrier to transport your skis & gear, you're missing out bigtime. It's so great to keep all that snow and dirt out of the car (not that my car actually stays clean, but...).
When choosing a boxtop, I think the most important thing is size. Go as big as you can! As long as you get the right size, you're going to love all the thoughtful features that Yakima provides.
