Feeling fat and restless in the big city, Ken and I decided to get the
heck out of town and really bask in some spring rain showers out in the
wilderness somewhere.

Northern Nevada Backcountry

Why dont I have my skis?
Since spring is a tricky time to get out in the
hills, we decided to head south and leave the skis behind. A long
drive through the desert found us in northern Nevada, where we decided
to climb a peak and hunt around for antlers on the way up.

Beautiful scenery in Northern Nevada
We didn't
find too many antlers, but the hiking was great, and we got to play in
the snow at ten thousand feet, wear t-shirts when the sun was shining,
and leave the expedition-weight underwear at home.

Enjoying the short season that campfires are allowed

Luxury in the mountains...
The wildlife was
scarce - we saw birds and a few "timber tigers" (most folks call 'em
chipmunks, but we know their real natures!), but no big animals until
we were on the road home, at which point we had a memorable encounter
with a really pissed-off baby badger and his mom (See
previous post)- luckily, we had the
video camera handy. All in all, it was a pretty fun 'spring break' -
maybe next weekend, we'll tackle some of the desert rivers that we
scouted.....more to come!
