I usually stand as close to the middle of the road as possible. Most people will stop or at least serve!
I just let the blond braids show, crack a nice smile, make whatever guy I'm with hide in the bushes. I've never had a car pass without stopping.
If you're a girl, getting a ride is almost like shooting fish in a barrel - you may not get the FIRST car that comes by, but you usually won't have to wait long. It's not fair, but it's true.
If you're a guy or a couple trying to get a ride, make sure you look clean, drug-free and harmless. Tuck those dreads under your hat, pull up your groovy lowriders, take off your sunglasses, stand up straight and smile like a Mormon missionary. Remember - if you look like an unwashed homeless serial rapist, it's tough to get a ride, no matter how many cute signs you hold up!
Finally, clean off your gear and make sure it's in a tidy bundle, so those nice drivers don't have to worry about you staining or slicing up their upholstery with your rad board(s). They're doing you a favor, so don't mess up their ride with your dirty self or your dirty stuff.
The girl is definitely key in my experience. I've spent several occasions hiding in the bushes while my cute wife stuck her thumb out to get a ride for us.
Haha, how about " Stop!"
You know - I've been on both sides of the thumb quite a bit, and I must say - from the driver's perspective - you really got put some effort into it for me to pick you up. I can't stand the hitchhikers who are walking with their backs to you and trying to thumb....show me the effort! Doesn't hurt to be hot either.
Congrats to pdx32! With a name like that you have won yourself a new sweatshirt. Enjoy!
Lol those signs are great!
My girlfriend said she one day picked up a skier on the way home from Whistler because she didn't want them to be picked up some psycho. The girl was grateful she picked her up and not some psycho too!
And Serial Killers the world over find a new M.O. haha
Ha good tips my man, i'll be usin' those for sure
Doing a little dance always seems to help...
